Across cultures, the act of defining and understanding creatures takes on diverse meanings. This research delves into the work of Kim, an artist-researcher with an Asian background, as she explores her connection to a marine specimen within an institutional archive: the octopus. Drawing on scientific data and its focus on reproductive behavior, Kim weaves a narrative informed by her cultural heritage. This project details the profound impact of the octopus's "mentorship" on Kim, revealing how its habits offer a powerful allegory for institutionalized oppression and a pathway towards bridging the gap between humanity and nature, all expressed through the transformative lens of art
